The Deputy Editor will need to be a skilled and experienced writer with a good understanding of B2B publishing, passionate about the hospitality and catering industry, have good contacts across many market segments and have an excellent knowledge of print and digital media – and the ability to conceptualise and create content across any platform.
Skills Required
Key responsibility areas:

Feature writing (print):
• Identifying relevant industry news and developing and maintaining lists of topical feature ideas
• Monitoring trends and events and proposing feature articles for consideration
• Completing interviews, sourcing photographs, compiling features
• Fact checking

Digital content contribution:
• regular blog posts
• management of social media accounts for H&R brand (Facebook, Twitter) and ongoing contributions to all sites

Creating commercially focussed content (all platforms) – including advertorials, special reports, supplements, advertorials, promos-mailers and webletters:
• Obtaining briefs from the sales team / client
• Conducting research and completing interviews where necessary
• Sourcing appropriate images
• Verifying all facts, claims and the accuracy of the information
• Generating copy
• Submitting copy to client for review
• Implementing any corrections to copy

Ongoing industry research:
• Gathering news and information on an ongoing basis
• Consulting online sources, picking out and collating relevant information

Networking - launches & industry events:
• Representing the H&R brand at launches and events where possible
• Building good relationships with industry spokespeople
• Gathering information to use for print and online applications
• Staying up-to-date with new trends and developments in the hospitality industry
• Pass on advertising leads to sales team

Adhoc duties:
• Participating and contributing to annual and monthly content planning processes
• Developing and implementing page management guidelines for advertorials for sales teams to use when pitching to clients
• Assisting with the compilation and production of marketing collateral, sales kits, client proposals and presentations
• Attending client meetings with sales team when requested, to assist with the pitching of commercial content opportunities

The successful candidate will need to possess the following:

• Relevant tertiary qualification
• Minimum of 5 years solid practical experience, preferably gained in either a news journalism role or as a writer in a B2B publishing environment
• News desk / newspaper training / work experience advantageous
• Must be familiar with production and page management requirements
• Investigative ability – able to structure questions and pose these in the appropriate manner to gather necessary information
• Proven writing skills – and a portfolio of published work to prove it
• Excellent communication skills
